Alternatively, if you do not have a GPS capable phone (or want to lookup places offline), these utilities can be used to search (using location keywords or parts of words) to find corresponding Wikipedia Keyword place entries and also nearby entries in the proximity. You can then download and launch an application to view the information on your phone (which will incur a normal data charge).

Web Based - Route Planners

Enables route planning based on peaks (such as mountains and hills and trig points) or places of interest. If you log in the points are saved and can be loaded on future occasions. The Wiki version of the route planner enables places of interest to be used instead of peaks - go straight to the corresponding Wikipedia page by clicking the link - or download to your (Java enabled) phone.
